I'm Not Who They Remember And That's the Point
There was a time in my life when I explained everything.
Why I said no.
Why I pulled away.
Why I chose myself.
I overexplained.
I overcompensated.
I made sure everyone else was good, even if I wasn’t.
And eventually, I gave so much of me that resentment took a front row seat in my life.
Until something in me broke…. and honestly, thank God it did.
Because now. I don’t explain much.
Not out of spite, but out of peace.
The truth is, I don’t owe anyone an explanation for my healing, my distance, or my growth. Especially not to the people who already made up their minds about who I was, long before I ever had the chance to become who I am now.
That old version of me, the one who was angry, quick to react, scared of softness, always performing strength, always doing the most. She’s not here anymore.
I am not who they remember.
And well that’s kind of the point.
The woman I am today..
She’s quieter. Softer.
She takes her time. She holds her peace.
She chooses her battles. She chooses herself.
She’s okay with being misunderstood if that means preserving her joy.
And she’s not afraid to stand alone if that’s what alignment requires.
So if you ever feel the need to explain yourself to people who only see you through an outdated lens, take a deep breath and remind yourself:
You don’t have to keep showing up in places where your evolution isn’t welcomed.
You don’t have to carry the weight of people’s memory when you’ve already outgrown it.
Let them remember who you were.
But you, you just keep becoming.
If you’ve been quietly outgrowing your old life, this is your sign to stop shrinking to fit their memory of you. Drop a 🔥 if this hit or send it to a friend who’s walking into their next chapter without apology.
